Balchatri trap for Japanese Sparrowhawk

October is the start of ‘sparrowhawk’ season in south east Asia. Some falconer, have try to trap the sparrowhawk for the season.

Here is one of the balchatri trap that can be use for trapping sparrowhawk. It is from a used – old hamster cage which is modified and nooses is added to it.

In the balchatri, there are food and drink cup for the finch. The finch is the lure. Normally japanese sparrowhawk like small finch because it is ‘easy prey’ for them.

My new block perch

A friend of mine asks his friends to make block perch for him… and since he knows that I like bird of prey and the accessories. Therefore he orders few extra for me. So, in addition to my bow perch, I also will have some block perch in my collection very very soon. I think the quality is very nice. It is prepared nicely and consider very ‘good quality’ because the perch is not produce by someone that into falconry.

The size is for small size bird of prey especially kestrel and also small size falcon or small size owl. I think I will use mine for sparrow hawk later on (if I manage to get some this season). The top is made from wood and Astroturf. Well, in many place, you may think that this is normal, but here in my place, it is not very easy to find one and it is very costly to buy.

My friend told me that it is ready and I will get it in few days… can’t wait to have it… and of course can’t wait to have a hawk on it!

My new Bow Perch

Few weeks back, I make some modification on the design of the bow perch… well actually the design is still the same with my previous bow perch, just that I add something at the horizontal bar..

With this modification, the bow perch will be suitable in door and outdoor and when located outdoor, it can be fixed to the ground so the bird wont able to drag the bow perch away.

The new bow perch

Finally yesterday I pick up my perch… need some adjustment because the blacksmith didn’t know what I want actually… but the result is not too bad.

I buy some rope to wrap it so my sparrow can perch on the ‘rope’. Here below is the photo of the bow perch.

Today I went to a local blacksmith and ask him to make a bow perch for me…

I should be able to get it maybe tomorrow or the day after. Not sure how it will turn out but hopefully it is good.
