HUNT FOR RARE BIRD POISONER
Poor bird…
A RARE bird of prey found dead was poisoned, police said yesterday.
They are investigating after the red kite was spotted in dense woodland near Tomintoul, Banffshire.
It had swallowed an illegal pesticide called carbofuran which is believed to have been left out deliberately.
The bird, which was radio-tagged, originated from the Black Isle.
Police wildlife crime officer David MacKinnon called for those with any information to come forward.
He said: “The placing of poisoned baits in our countryside is a highly reckless and irresponsible practice.
“In this case, a specially protected schedule-one bird has been killed but there may have been other victims which have not been found.”
