Trained hawk terrorizes poodle owner
Falconry is fun and challenging. I really like to try it but still have no chances to do it. However, as everythings, sometimes it can create some hazzards.
I found this news, which talk about a hawk that is missing (from the owner) which later found that this hawk try to attack a poodle… maybe the hawk is hungry, plus that it is trained to attacked their preys.
I hope incident like this will not make the community give a negative view on falconry. Incident like this can happen but I think it is not so frequent.
Okay, here below is the new which I get from: upi.com

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Nov. 23 (UPI) — A falconer in Anchorage, Alaska, missing a trained goshawk for two days knows it’s still alive, as it made an unsuccessful attempt to snatch a toy poodle.
Sue Hahn had a close encounter with the bird Wednesday when she was out in the yard with her two toy poodles. She spotted the hawk swooping towards them and began yelling and waving her arms. The bird was deterred, but came in for a second pass and she noticed jesses hanging from its legs, the Anchorage Daily News reported Thursday.
Hahn said she grabbed a Sears catalogue and flung it at the hawk, which in turn shredded it with its talons and then stared at her before flying away, she told the newspaper.
Hahn contacted animal control, which in turn reached licensed bird handler Don Hunley, who said he believes the bird was one his called Phoenix that went missing Monday.
Cindy Palmatier, rehabilitation director with the Bird Treatment and Learning Center, said the hawk displayed typical domesticated behavior when it shredded the catalogue.
“Goshawks are that way. They are a bird with attitude,” Palmatier told the newspaper.
